Yeah fashion's shallow, but have my swimming certificate so I can dive right in. ...okay that didn't get many laughs..

Career planning

All I ever seem to have done on this blog is write about how busy I am, and how I don’t have time to write, when in actual fact I’ve been wasting time there and then by writing about having no time to write. So I’m going to write about WHY I don’t have time to write frequently about fashion. (Note the specificity).

I’ve just started my fifth year of High School, my second year of GCSEs, sophomore year, the last year of compulsory education. Whatever you want to call it, I’m doing it. And I’m trying to enjoy it alot, but still do the best I can.

One thing that annoys me at the moment, and I know it’s going to keep happening, is that people who don’t know that I am reasonably talented in art (not my words, don’t look like that rolling your eyes!) just assume I’m going to be off to do my A Levels, then apply for somewhere like Cambridge or Oxford, because surely if I can’t do that, who can? Right? NO! Fashion is what I want to do, and yes I get good grades in all of my other subjects, but I work hard at them and quite frankly, I deserve them! Yeah I do sometimes get by without working my bum off my Topshop skinnies, but it doesn’t all just HAPPEN! I don’t just glance at an exam paper and get 100%. Why do you think I work so hard, and try to get the best grades I can get? Because I like Maths, Physics and Geography? Because then I can get into some highly prestigious university studying something I don’t really want to do, but I’m smart and tens of people would kill to be told (quite a few times) that they could well get accepted to Oxford, so I should?! (That sentence was very badly written but I’m in full rant mode, I’m not about to go back and change it.)

No! I work hard at everything I do because then I know I will have a better chance of getting to do what I want. Fashion, art and textiles are included in the things I get good grades in, and just because they’re not academic subjects doesn’t mean thos grades are any easier to get, that I put less work in to them, that they’re not as worthy of my time at college/uni. Fashion is my dream, it’s my world now. I nearly cried earlier because I considered the possibility of the course I’ve been dreaming of studying (from 2012) since I was 13, closing and not being available.

Nobody has any idea how much I want to do this. I don’t buy extra books on nuclear physics or population dynamics or Shakespeare, I buy Vogue, ELLE and books about designers, vintage fashion, old Vogue and fashion philosophy, because it’s my THING. I am part of the fashion world. Some people feel like they’re connected to people in films, or books if they’re obsessed with Harry Potter, or bands. They feel like they know the people, they want to know everything about the authors, actors or writers. They want to know their' star signs, where they lived when they were 12, what their first cat was called, why they make their work. They are obsessed. Well that’s me, only I have collages of Vogue and fashion ads plastered all over my walls instead of the grungy yet  to someone supposedly attractive face of some over-hyped band who really sound the same as any other.

(Just thought it would be amusing to slot in here that whilst writing this I am wearing a GAP hoodie and leggings and look like a “right proper minger” because I’m feeling rubbish and owe it to my clothes and vintage jewellery not to look rubbish whilst wearing them too).

I haven’t really come to a conclusion, but I’m going to stop writing and make a hot drink because I feel like poo and just realised it’s raining (there is no relevance, I just thought I’d be British and complain about the weather).

I apologise for my directness in this post, but I had to aim it at someone.

Ranting about Gaga and fashion and stuff I will say a million times over.

It always annoy me when I, like everyone else, get about 4 emails a day from Lookbook, telling me it’s my daily feed of collective fashion conciousness. And I’m like, urgh, stop making me excited by telling me I have email and then it’s only freakin’ Lookbook.

But I just went through every single email I’ve been sent with Lookbook photos from the last 4 months that I’ve been ignoring them, and I am still constantly overwhelmed by the power of fashion and clothes, to tell a story.
And it really does piss me off when people call fashion or the fashion industry shallow or bitchy or “just about skinny girls walking in high heels wearing over priced bits of Liberty fabric”. Okay, nobody’s ever said that, but I bet they think it. But it’s not! Fashion is an art form and a form of storytelling, a way of getting moods and feelings across, and obviously it’s something that I am fiercely passionate about and I would do anything to defend it and what I believe in.
I read something about Gaga the other day, saying she should stop dressing up and doing “the whole costume thing” and concentrate on her actual singing. But people don’t get that without her “costume thing” she is not much different from any other singer who is amazingly talented. She would still be a better songwriter, but fashion is a part of who she is. She isn’t putting it on for show, she is using it to express her feelings and messages about the world. She has been given the power of fame, that people will hear her music and see her outfits whether they like her or not. She is getting her message across through two art forms, her music and fashion…

Well that turned into a fairly long rant, sorry. And I’ve said most of this before and I will say it again because it makes me angry more than anything else in the world apart from racism, that fashion is still not widely accepted as art and the people that work in fashion are considered in some way “not intelligent”. Is the most influential women in the magazine and fashion industry, who decides basically, what you’re wearing, whether you like it or not, Anna Wintour, not freakin’ intelligent? Well, yeah. Look, I can’t think of a good finishing sentence for this little rant, so I’m just going to go. Byebye!

Falling in love

Boys are easy to fall for, but difficult to a) make them fall for you and b) climb back up from them.

So based on the fact I only realised this last night, I decided to turn to a new object of lust. Beyond Retro.

Beyond Retro is a vintage fashion empire, with stores in London, Brighton and somewhere else, and an online fashion heaven.

After just 10 minutes of amazement, I’ve already added floral playsuits, blazers, petticoats, mini skirts and corsets to my mental MUST BUY NOW list!

And let’s face it, when you find the ones you want, fashion and clothes are never going to turn around and tell you you’re not their type…

Mad hair day

This post will be more than a little delayed, so I apologise for this.

On Friday I styled my hair all wavy for school. After a few repeats of Friday (Rebecca Black…if you haven’t watched it yet, you must, hilarious) and the fact that someone had commented on my hair, I was feeling more than a little bit daring and decided to experiment… Have fun laughing at the results…

Since this is a fashion blog, it seemed appropriate to attempt a fashion-y hairstyle…

Not a look I’ll be repeating, I must say.

So you, Mr. Moody. This is for you.

There’s a girl in my garden

Spring is here! So I spent my Saturday with my camera, Jessie J and the sun in the garden.

I wore a black and white striped top from New Look, a pair of ripped YesYes jeans that I customised into shorts, black leggings, a vintage pink shirt, a floral pair of sneakers, a floral bow in my hair and an assortment of mod and vintage necklaces.

You may have noticed a photo of my bum. I was trying to show that after the sitting-in-the-tree-looking-vacant photo, I ripped my already deliberately ripped shorts.

Big loves. Check me out on:

That Thursday Feeling

Don’t you get That Thursday Feeling? When you have GCSE Art and it makes you all bubbly, then you come home, eat baked beans, go to swimming training and generally whirl around in a flash but it’s great because you know the next day is Friday and then the week will be over? Okay maybe the GCSE Art, baked beans and swimming is just me, but the feeling isn’t, I betcha!

Today, That Thursday Feeling is making me want to do a random photo blog, about not much really.

So I am therefore blogging from my bedroom/studio, where I have given the term “wardrobe moodboard” a whole new meaning!

Yeah I’m a fashion geek. I’m all unique and kooky and stuffs. But that doesn’t mean Liam Payne gets any less nom!

Have you seen that advert on telly? I think it’s for Muller or Special K or Activia or something else which is healthy – go eat them. Now. Anyways. There’s this gooooorgeous ginger girl on this advert and her hair is all curly and in a floral bow hairband. I absolutely love it. So I tried to recreate it…

Personally I was pretty happy with how it looked. Got me a new profile pic on Twitter and Formspring anyways.

Speaking of, make sure you take a look over there –-------->

for my links to other sites!

I will be uploading more to my Lookbook soon, promise! Just have to wait until I get my new Nokia C3 Smartphone! Has a much better camera than my Genio.

Big loves. Time to go eat Baked Beans. Then swim. Which obviously means I got that Thursday Feeling!

You ain’t seen nothing like me yet.

Thank you!

I just got a bleep bleep from my phone, telling me someone had commented on my blog!

I GOT A COMMENT! :D

It said...

"Hi, just wanted to say LURVE what your doing, keep it up, because you are a totally marvy, mad, and clearly stylish inspiration. Hope you win the Sugar model comp!"

The comment was left anonymously, but whoever left it I just want to thank you so so much! I'm so glad you like my work! I'm definitely going to keep going, this is what I want and people like you are telling me I can do it! Thank you so so much, this made my day! x

PS: Unfortunately Sugar magazine has released it's LAST EVER issue, so my plans of entering for TeenPower Fashion Editor have been ruined. Sadface. :( But yay, because until April I can enter the Vogue Young Talent Contest, one of the UKs most prestigious writing awards. Wish me luck!

The first piece from the MiaModa collection

Hello my charming little readers!

The first piece from my “collection” which I am starting to build up, is fully completed!

It’s my MiaModa waistcoat. Tailored and fitted to a size 6 – 10, as the ties on the back can be adjusted.

It’s cotton throughout, with a pink lining, pockets and collar. The lace around the bottom and collar is gathered to give a slight Elizabethan touch.164835165813165847165858165920

There’s only one thing left that I am DESPERATE to do. Create my FIRST ever label, so that it’s an actual proper garment.

You know when (not if, WHEN) I am a proper designer, that waistcoat will probably be worth a lot. I dread to think how much. Which is why I’m definitely hanging on to it for now!

I have to model it for my GCSE Textiles catwalk show soon too, so I’m working on some other pieces for my own collection.

Will post soon, there’s loads going on at school atm, with preparing for GCSE Art exam (doing a dress made from fabric flowers) and breaking school swimming records (wahooo!) and interviews for prefect (scary!), so I really have been neglecting my blog. Sorry!

Keep on subscribing and shizzle! Loves!
